My Thoughts on this Recipe

These Chocolate Peanut Butter Spider Cookies from A Spicy Perspective are so fun to make, and I think they are so cute! They are basically a Peanut Butter Blossom with a peanut butter cup in the center instead of a Hershey’s Kiss, and chocolate legs and candied eyes.

Ingredients

The main ingredients are butter, peanut butter, flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, egg, baking soda, baking powder, chocolate chips and peanut butter cups. View the full recipe here.

Recommendations

The cookie dough is simple and straight-forward to make. Just make sure not to beat the dough very long once you add the flour mixture, or the dough will be tough.

I used a medium cookie scoop and did a heaping scoop, and I got 18 cookies out of the batch. I think I was meant to just use a level cookie scoop, and I would do that next time.

I used a measuring spoon to place the divot in the dough at the ten minute mark, but it didn’t stay, and I had to do it again when the cookies came out. In total, mine cooked for 18 minutes. I would take 1-2 minutes off of that next time.

I waited until the cookies were cool, and I had to secure the peanut butter cups with chocolate underneath because they wouldn’t stay. I did try using the truffle as well, but my husband thought they looked like octopuses, and we liked the peanut butter cups better.

I had both the Trader Joe’s peanut butter cups and the Reese’s, and the Reese’s had cleaner lines on the top and bottom of the cup, so I used those. The Trader Joe’s ones had extra dots and lines, so I would recommend using the Reese’s brand for this.

The spider legs were pretty easy to pipe onto the cookies. I found it easiest to pipe one side, and then turn the cookie 180 degrees and pipe the other, so your dominant hand is always on the side of the cookie where you are piping the legs.

I purchased the eyes on Amazon, but I’m not sure I’d recommend that because they took forever to get here. Next time I would try Hobby Lobby or Michael’s, and I even saw some at the Walmart grocery store. Regarding the eyes, I happened to have some food tweezers, and they were so helpful with attaching the eyes to the peanut butter cups. The eyes are so small and difficult to place on the cookie, and the tweezers really help.

Future Ideas/Variations

I wouldn’t change a thing!

Final thoughts

These cookies will be fun for adults and kids alike! They are perfect for your Halloween celebration!
