My Thoughts on this Recipe
This Thai Basil Beef from The Recipe Critic has serious depth of flavor, and it’s perfect for a night you are craving takeout but want to know what you are eating. It only takes a few minutes to prep and make, so it’s perfect for a weeknight.
Ingredients
The main ingredients are: shallots, garlic, ginger, red bell pepper, beef, brown sugar, soy sauce, fish sauce, oyster sauce, chili paste, beef broth, basil, and cornstarch. View the full recipe here.
Recommendations
The directions say to saute the vegetables first, move them to the side of the pan, and then cook the beef. I elected to cook the beef first, remove it from the pan, remove the extra grease, and then cook the vegetables. Then I added the beef back to the pan along with the sauce, and I followed the directions from there.
I also put a lot more basil in than it called for because I love it and had some extra to use.
Future Ideas/Variations
In her post, she outlines all sorts of substitutions. For the ground beef, you could use ground chicken or turkey, for the red bell peppers, other vegetables like zucchini, shredded carrots or bean sprouts. You can use Sriracha instead of the chili paste, and soy sauce instead of the Oyster Sauce.
I also want to mention that I love the Thai Basil Chicken Bowls, and you may want to check out that recipe as well if this appeals to you.
